MorningStar Farms recalled select Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties because of possible plastic pieces in the food. Consumers should check UPCs and better-if-used-before dates before using products from the freezer.

MorningStar Farms is recalling two frozen plant-based products sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Costa Rica because they may contain pieces of plastic. Consumers should check Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties against the UPCs and better-if-used-before dates below, then discard affected packages and contact the company for a full refund.
The recall was announced June 18 in a company notice posted by Kellanova’s newsroom. The company said no other MorningStar Farms brand products are affected.
The recall covers only the specific products, package sizes, UPCs and dates listed by the company.
Shoppers should match both the UPC and the date on the package. A similar MorningStar Farms product with a different UPC or date was not included in the company’s recall list.
MorningStar Farms said the products are being voluntarily recalled because of possible plastic pieces in the food.
The company notice did not describe the size, color or source of the plastic pieces. It also did not list a pathogen, allergen or cooking issue as the reason for the recall.
People who bought an affected package should discard it and contact MorningStar Farms for a full refund, according to the company notice.
Consumers can contact Consumer Affairs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time by calling 800-962-0120 or texting 877-453-5837.
Before throwing away the package, consumers may want to note the product name, UPC and better-if-used-before date so they can provide the information when requesting a refund.
MorningStar Farms said the recalled products were distributed in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.
The company notice did not name specific grocery chains, individual stores or states. Because the recall includes U.S. distribution, consumers who keep MorningStar Farms frozen products at home should check freezer packages rather than relying only on where they shop.
The company’s recall notice did not provide a separate lot code beyond the UPCs and better-if-used-before dates. It also did not list the number of packages or cases affected.

The notice did not say whether any injuries had been linked to the recalled products. It also did not include a retailer-by-retailer removal list.
Consumers should check the company’s recall notice or Consumer Affairs line if they need help confirming a product or requesting a refund.
