Champion Foods is recalling some Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread products because of a possible Salmonella risk tied to recalled milk powder used in a seasoning blend. Consumers should check the UPC and sell-by date before eating the product and should not consume any recalled package.
The FDA posted the company announcement on June 1, and Champion Foods posted the voluntary recall on its site. The company said no illnesses or injuries had been reported to Champion Foods or its suppliers as of the notices checked.
The recall covers specific sell-by dates of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread in single-pack and two-pack formats. Other Motor City Pizza Co. products are not affected, according to Champion Foods.

The FDA-posted notice said the affected lots were distributed and sold nationwide through retailers and food distributors including Costco, Walmart, Giant Landover, Grocery Outlet, Jewel, Kroger, Schnucks, Target, C\&S, Bozzuto’s, Brookshire Grocery, Meijer, Food City, KeHe, Lipari, Publix, Merchants Dis Hickory, PDI/Hy-Vee, River Valley, SpartanNash, Supervalu and UNFI.
Target’s recall page lists the recalled product as sold at Target stores and Target’s website. A Costco member letter identified Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread item No. 1453434 for purchases from Feb. 6 through May 29, 2026, and listed the two-pack sell-by dates above.
Champion Foods said the recall follows a California Dairies Inc. milk powder recall over a potential Salmonella concern. The recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that makes a seasoning blend used in the 5-cheese sauce blend for the cheese bread.
The company said routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer before production showed the seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella. Champion Foods said it issued the recall as a precaution.
The FDA is also tracking other downstream recalls connected to powdered milk from California Dairies Inc., including products that used the recalled ingredient in new foods or repackaged the recalled milk powder.
Do not eat a package that matches the recalled product, UPC and sell-by date. Keep the box long enough to check the code and contact Champion Foods or the retailer where it was purchased.
The FDA notice lists info@motorcitypizzacompany.com as the consumer contact for more information. Champion Foods’ recall page also directs consumers to the company contact form or info@championfoods.com.
Costco’s member letter instructs customers to return the recalled item to a local Costco for a full refund and says not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled product. Refund or return instructions can vary by retailer, so shoppers who bought the product elsewhere should follow their store’s recall guidance or contact Champion Foods.
The FDA-posted announcement said Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. It said healthy people with Salmonella infection often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and that rare cases can lead to more severe illness if the organism enters the bloodstream.
The notices checked did not report any illnesses or injuries linked to the recalled Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread.
Consumers should recheck the FDA recall page, Champion Foods and their retailer if they bought Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread and are unsure whether their package is included. Updates may be needed if additional UPCs, sell-by dates, retailers, illnesses or refund instructions are announced.
