A large warehouse fire on Oxgate Lane in Brent has been brought under control, but firefighters remain at the scene and the road is still closed. London Fire Brigade (LFB) said there were no reports of injuries, while residents nearest the smoke have been told to keep windows and doors shut while crews continue work.
Twenty-five fire engines and around 150 firefighters responded to the fire, which involved a two-floor multi-use warehouse on a business park.
LFB said the majority of the structure and its roof were alight at the height of the fire. The blaze was brought under control by 5.02am on Friday, 12 June, after the first emergency calls were received on Thursday evening.
Parts of the building remained alight in the latest official update, and firefighters were expected to stay at the scene through the day to fully extinguish the fire.
Around 70 people from a neighbouring residential block were evacuated as a precaution and taken to a local rest centre.
Those residents have now been allowed to return home, LFB said. The brigade’s community engagement team is also at the scene to support people affected by the fire and provide reassurance.
Smoke remains an issue close to the incident. Residents in the immediate area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed while crews remain on site.
Oxgate Lane remains closed between the junctions of Edgware Road and Coles Green Road.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should avoid the immediate closure area while firefighting work continues. Anyone travelling through this part of Brent should check current traffic information before setting off and allow access for emergency crews.
The brigade received the first of more than 85 calls reporting the fire at 9.14pm on Thursday, 11 June.
Crews were sent from Hendon, Willesden, West Hampstead and surrounding fire stations. Four turntable ladders were used to tackle the fire from height, while a High Volume Pump and a Hose Layer were brought in to increase the water supply for firefighting.
The scale of the response reflected both the size of the building and the amount of smoke being produced.
The cause is being investigated by LFB’s Fire Investigation Team.
The brigade said the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage. It has not released a final cause, damage estimate or road reopening time.
Further updates are expected if LFB confirms the scene has been fully extinguished, the road has reopened or the investigation findings have changed.
