West Marine is closing 59 stores in 23 states as part of its Chapter 11 restructuring. The company says remaining stores, online shopping and West Marine Pro will continue operating while the case moves forward.

West Marine is closing 59 stores in 23 states as part of its Chapter 11 restructuring. Customers checking whether a local store is affected should review the list below and confirm current hours, sale terms and return rules with the store before making a trip.
The company has said it will keep serving customers through remaining stores, its website and the West Marine Pro app. Individual final closing dates were not announced in the sources reviewed.
The reported closing list includes locations in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Florida has the largest number of listed closures, with eight stores. Michigan has six. California and Washington each have five.
Closing sales are underway at affected stores, according to local reports citing West Marine’s store-closure notices. Those reports also said all sales at closing stores are final, so customers should check the store’s current return and exchange rules before buying clearance items.
West Marine has not announced a final day for each closing location. Store hours and inventory may change as closing sales continue.
Gift cards, warranties, online orders and returns should be checked directly with West Marine or the customer service channel tied to the purchase. Bankruptcy restructurings can change store-level policies quickly, especially at closing locations.
West Marine said in its Chapter 11 announcement that it entered a restructuring support agreement with key financial stakeholders and filed for voluntary Chapter 11 protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
The company said the restructuring is intended to reduce debt, improve financial flexibility and allow the business to keep serving boaters. It cited supply chain disruptions, extreme weather events and shifts in consumer behavior as headwinds.
Chapter 11 does not automatically mean a company is going out of business. In West Marine’s case, the company said customers would continue to have access to products through remaining retail stores, online platforms and the West Marine Pro app during the process.
The current public list reviewed for this article remains 59 stores. Court-document reporting has said West Marine continues to evaluate its store portfolio, meaning the list could change if additional filings or company notices are posted.
Customers and employees should watch West Marine’s store pages, bankruptcy-case notices and local store communications for updates on final closing dates, sale terms and any additional affected locations.
