Unofficial South Dakota Republican governor primary results show Toby Doeden first and Larry Rhoden second, with all precincts fully reported. Because no candidate reached 35%, the race is headed to a July 28 runoff pending the official canvass.

South Dakota’s Republican primary for governor does not yet have an outright nominee. Unofficial returns from the South Dakota Secretary of State showed Toby Doeden first and Larry Rhoden second, putting them on track for a July 28 runoff pending the official canvass.
The Secretary of State’s results page listed all 686 precincts as fully reported and marked the governor race as requiring a runoff pending canvass. The page was last updated at 12:15 p.m. CT on June 3.
With 136,485 votes reported in the Republican governor primary:
The statewide results page also showed 171,729 ballots cast across the primary and 34.55% turnout. Those totals remain unofficial until the canvass process is complete.
South Dakota’s election code requires a runoff in a governor primary with three or more candidates if no candidate receives 35% of that party’s vote. No Republican candidate reached that threshold in the unofficial returns.
The runoff is limited to the top two vote-getters. Based on the unofficial results, that means Doeden and Rhoden are the candidates set to move forward, with Johnson and Hansen out of the nomination race unless the official canvass changes the order.
The South Dakota Secretary of State’s runoff calendar lists Tuesday, July 28, as runoff Election Day. Polls are scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
The calendar also lists June 12 as the start of absentee voting for the runoff, July 13 as the voter registration deadline and July 27 as the last day to request an absentee ballot before 5 p.m. local time.
Voters should use the Secretary of State’s voter tools or contact their county auditor for registration, polling place and absentee-ballot questions.
The result is not certified yet. The Secretary of State’s results page expressly labels the primary returns as unofficial, even though all precincts are shown as fully reported.
The official canvass can adjust totals before runoff candidates are certified. After the July 28 runoff, the state calendar says county canvasses are due within six calendar days, and the State Board of Canvassers must meet within seven days to examine county returns.
For readers checking South Dakota governor primary results, the practical answer is that the Republican nomination is not settled. Doeden led the first round, Rhoden finished second, and the GOP contest is headed to a July 28 runoff pending canvass.
The next meaningful update should come from the Secretary of State or the county canvassing process, followed by official runoff voting information ahead of the July 28 election.

North Dakota’s June 9 primary returns are available through the Secretary of State’s election results site. Results remain unofficial until county and state canvassing boards complete certification.

Rep. Susie Lee and Republican Marty O’Donnell advanced from Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District primaries, setting up a closely watched House battleground. Unofficial Clark County returns showed Lee with 28,798 votes and O’Donnell with 13,957.

No vote totals had been reported in South Carolina’s governor primaries at the latest check. Results are expected after polls close at 7 p.m. ET, with a June 23 runoff possible if no candidate wins a majority.
